6 Simple life Improving Purchases

Writer: Tara BergenTara Bergen

My aim here is always to be as helpful to people as possible. Here you will not find a list of "life hacks" that you've already seen, or completely unrealistic "tricks" that use more time to implement than if you had just done the task in the first place.

What you will find, is a list of real purchases or changes I've personally made that have worked really well for me! My wish is that you'll find something on this list to cut down the time you spend in your day doing menial things so you can spend more time on the things that move you forward and give you joy.

In no particular order, here are my 6 Simple purchases that improved my life:

1. Laser Hair Removal

Kicking it off with a bang here! (Or with a zap? Hehe) Before you disregard this completely, yes, I'm aware that this is usually a very expensive process. But there is a way to get this done for about a tenth of the price!

First, let me tell you that this has honestly saved me SO much time and money! The actual appointments (depending on the size of the area you're having lasered) are only around 15 minutes every 4-6 weeks until the end of your sessions! The amount of sessions will vary person to person but on average it is usually about 6 to 10 to give you an idea. To wake up every morning and not even have to think about shaving is incredible, and never again will I be out in a tank top with my arms glued to my sides because I forgot!

In no way am I saying there's anything wrong with body hair if you choose to have it, but its not my personal preference so if you're like me, laser is a great option.

How did I get it so cheap? Groupon! Of course you must research the places listed, but for a service that usually costs over $100-$170CAD per session, I got a whole set of 6 sessions for the same price. It's a no brainer. BONUS, think of the money you'll save on razors!

2. Air Vent Phone Holder

No more looking down to see my GPS, and it won't pop off like the suction cup attachments do! This has made my drives much safer, and gives my phone somewhere to live, freeing up my cup holders for actual beverages.

I got this cute rose gold one at Winners.

3. Kitchen Sink Water purifier

I'm definitely a girl who wants her water free of any chemicals or whatever might have gotten into the tap water. We used to keep a large Brita filter at our house which was really great for a long time, but dragging it out of the fridge and refilling it all the time could be a drag. Espeically when the person before you finished all the water left and you were stuck waiting, parched, for it to filter through. By upgrading to a water filter that attatches right to the sink, getting purified water became as easy as simply turning on the tap! No more waiting, and now there's a whole lot more space in our fridge for what's really important. FOOD.

A shot of my DIY ivory satin pillowcase on my bed.

4. Satin pillow cases

Have you ever wished your pillow could always be on the cool side? Satin pillowcases are the way to go!

In addition to this awesome benefit, satin pillowcases also have many benefits for your skin and hair. The soft fabric doesn't pull the way cotton does, nor does it absorb as much moisture, so sleeping on satin will result in less wrinkles, less split ends, and more hydrated skin and hair than with cotton. Silk also has these benefits, however satin stays cooler which is why I opted for the latter. Though both are far better options than cotton.

I bought fabric and made mine (If you can draw a rectangle, you can sew a pillowcase. Easy), but you can also find them on Amazon for a great price.

5. Reinforced Sports Bra cups

Maybe this was just a me problem, but how annoying is it that the padding in sports bras are constantly falling out in the wash, folding over, or getting lost completely?! Not to mention how time consuming it is to find the matching ones and stuff them back in properly through that tiny little hole in the side of the bra. Why are more people not talking about this??

Anyway, I finally solved this issue by tacking the inserts to the inside of the bra using a needle and thread. It's very simple, takes little to no skill, and it's free! I just tied a few knots, and none have fallen out since. I realise this is not a purchase, but it has definitely improved my life so I wanted to throw it in here for you!

6. Diva Cup

If you don't get a period or feel uncomfortable talking about them, you can pretty much stop reading here if you want but if you do, I'm here to convince you that you never need to buy another tampon. You may have heard of this new thing called a Diva Cup that is essentially a little cup that you use like a tampon except you can leave it in for up to 12 hours, and you're not consistently creating trash! Score 1 for you and 1 for the Earth! I was definitely sceptical at first, as I'm sure many are, but I figured if it can save me the money of repurchasing feminine hygiene products every month, it's worth a go, and it turned out to be more than worth it!

Disclaimer: Make sure you are cleaning it properly according to the instructions, and buy a trusted brand. You don't want to mess around with things you are putting in your body.

I'm sure there are 101 more things I could list here, but these are the ones that have been great for me recently so here's hoping they'll be great for you! If you have more simple purchases and tips that have improved your life, saved you time or saved you money, I encourage you to comment and share! I'd love to hear what's helped you!
