I wanted to bring you something special to cheer you up from this heavy snowfall we're
experiencing (if you too live in Alberta). I had the absolutely wonderful Sarah Hills put together her top list of tips for when you are travelling by plane! Sarah has worked for Canadian airline, WestJet for 6 years, and has some great advice for all of us! Here are her top tips:
1. "For starters...make sure your driver's license isn't expired and that your name matches your ID. People always use nicknames but then we have to do name changes. Both of these are transport Canada law." 2. "Nexus is a good idea for those who travel more than 4-5 times a year!" For those who aren't familiar with Nexus, it is a Canada-US program which allows pre-approved low-risk travellers to navigate quicker. There are designated Nexus lines through security and some customs spots which allow for a shorter line. 3.

"Last minute tickets actually cost more than booking in advance contrary to popular belief." Don't listen to blanket advice on how to get a discount. "Each airline has their own way of doing deals." 4. "My biggest money saving tip is research each ticket. Some appear very cheap, but then you have to pay to print a boarding pass, for your bags, and even to call in. Or if you need to cancel you don't get any money back. Sneaky things like that! [...] Paying ahead of time online for bags [with airlines like] Swoop and Flair will save guests money!" 5.
"Bring an empty water bottle through security [You can't bring that much liquid through] and fill it up on the other side at a water station to save 5 bucks on a bottle of water!" Saves the planet too! 6.

Finally, leave extra time for travelling to, and arriving at the airport! Edmonton recently had a huge dump of snow, which severely delayed people in getting to the airport. Road conditions are not always easy to predict and according to Sarah, "So many people [were] missing their flights, and had to buy new tickets".
That's all folks! I personally have used a few of these and they've been soooo helpful when travelling. What are your best air travel tips? Comment them below and join the conversation!
